JoAnne Harper started The Derrick with the dream of offering luxury home design to the southeast corner of Kansas in 1993. Named for The Norman No. 1 Oil Derrick, the first oil well west of the Mississippi in Neodesha, where the shop began.
In 2001, Chanda Shelton, JoAnne's daughter, came on as co-owner and designer. With extensive design experience from over two decades as an interior designer, Chanda brought a wealth of new ideas and inspiration to the team. In 2021 JoAnne stepped into full-time retirement to enjoy traveling and relaxing with family.
